"Obviously you've been lobotomized by the delusions of streaming celluloid."

SYNOPSIS:  Overwhelmed by the never ending deluge of Hollywood hype raining down on suburbia, a small group of Texans decide to kidnap a movie star.  The leader (Mark Hanna) is fed up with his girlfriend’s (Rebekah Cooper) obsession with screen actor “Brad Schmidt” (Trey Shaw).  The road trip to L.A. is eventful enough.  But nothing compares to their experimental “celebrity therapy” back in Texas when they teach this “elite actor” how to take care of the homeless and pick up trash.  At least two worlds collide as Brad Schmidt’s girlfriend is in hot pursuit and the results make for quite a change in everyone’s life.

PRESS RELEASE:

ANGELIKA HOSTS GRAND PREMIERE OF RUSSELL HOBBS’ DEBUT FILM "CELEBRITY CULT"
A CRUCIBLE PICTURES PRODUCTION

Dallas, TX (April 21, 2004) -  Crucible Pictures has a hearty Texas helping of laughs, adventure, and rock & roll in this “King of the Hill” meets “12 Monkeys” romantic comedy.  The screening, which commences at 7:30 PM, May 13, 2004 is open to the public and will be held at the Angelika Film Center in Mockingbird Station.  The event is free but does require attendees to RSVP for reserved seating.

SYNOPSIS: CELEBRITY CULT involves a small group of Texas misfits that decide to kidnap a movie star.  The leader (Mark Hannah) overwhelmed by the never ending deluge of Hollywood hype raining down on Suburbia and fed up with his girlfriend's (Rebekah Cooper) obsession with screen actor "Brad Schmidt" (Trey Shaw) instigates a road trip to L.A..  The road trip is eventful enough, but nothing compares to their experimental "celebrity therapy" back in Texas.  Our well meaning Texans teach this "elite actor" how to take care of the homeless and pick up trash.  At least two worlds collide as "Brad Schmidt's" girlfriend is in hot pursuit and the results make for quite a change in everyone's life.

When asked what inspired "Celebrity Cult" Hobbs replied, "My soul is vexed everyday when I turn on the TV or see magazines like People and Us.  The masses are so enamored with Hollywood; the idolization of actors and celebrities has lobotomized our culture."

Immediately following the screening will be a question and answer session with director Russell David Hobbs, owner of The Door in Deep Ellum and Fort Worth, as well as with the film's producers and actors.

"Celebrity Cult," written and directed by Hobbs, brings in local musicians for much of its soundtrack.  In fact, many of the bands featured in the film have played at The Door in either Dallas or Forth Worth.  In addition, The Door club in Dallas was also utilized as part of the set.

Crucible Pictures is an independent production company based in Dallas, Texas, and is a subsidiary of Crucible Artists.  The website for this project is www.celebrity-cult.com.
